Sorina agreed to stay at the deserted mansion known as West House to write the Howald family history. This, she thought, would give her more feelings for the family that lived there - the family had been savagely and inexplicably murdered the previous year. Being calm and level-headed, she thought nothing of the strange, almost ghostly cat that seemed to appear at odd times out of nowhere. But then she noticed the Carnelian around her neck; she felt the stone watching her, calling her.
